An editorial planning guide, not a booking or a confirmed schedule. Check current official requirements and the actual supplier terms before committing.
Days 1–3: arrive and explore Beijing
Use arrival day for settling in. Give the next two days separate priorities: one major historical visit and one neighbourhood or excursion day. This is an example structure, not a confirmed attraction schedule.
Choose the actual order after checking official admission and transport arrangements. Keep a lighter option available if arrival is late or energy is low.
Day 4: move between bases
Compare the complete door-to-door rail and flight journeys, including station or airport access, baggage and hotel check-in. Book only after the travel date and passenger details are settled.
Avoid a non-refundable evening commitment that depends on everything running exactly to plan.
Days 5–7: explore Shanghai and leave room
Group walks and visits by neighbourhood. Keep one half-day flexible and make departure day fit the real journey to your airport or station.
You can replace either city with another base that better matches your interests. The principle is a manageable number of moves, not a mandatory pair of cities.
